ChatGPT Work pricing vs Kortix, the open-source option
ChatGPT Work has no price of its own, so the per-seat fee is the whole bill. Kortix is open source and bills differently: a seat with pooled credits, per-second compute, and your own model keys. Self-host is free.

What a ChatGPT Work bill actually contains
ChatGPT Work is OpenAI's agentic work product. OpenAI does not sell it as a standalone product. It is bundled into ChatGPT plans and seats, so the bill is the seat count times the seat price, plus workspace credits when a team passes the included usage. The ChatGPT Business Standard seat is $25 per user per month billed monthly, or $20 billed annually, and a Premium seat is $125 per month, or $100 billed annually (checked October 2026). A Business workspace needs at least two seats, and API usage is billed separately.
How Kortix's bill is put together
Kortix is the open-source AI Operating System, and its bill separates the seat from the compute. Free is $0 with 200 credits per month and 1 project. The team plan is $40 per seat per month with 2,500 credits per month per seat, pooled. Agent Computer compute is billed per second, per resource, about $0.20 per hour for the default machine, and $0 while stopped, so a session that is not running costs nothing.
The seat pays for capacity, and the model stays yours
On a ChatGPT plan the model comes with the seat. On Kortix the model is a value you set. Any model provider with your own keys. Or the ChatGPT plan you already pay for. A key you supply routes tokens to your provider account, so Kortix credits cover the seat and the compute instead. The models and your keys page lists the providers and the CLI commands.
Self-host turns the seat line to zero
Run it on Kortix Cloud, in your VPC, or on your own on-prem network. Self-host is free, and you pay your model and compute providers directly. Two commands start the stack on a box you control:
curl -fsSL https://kortix.com/install | bashkortix self-host startThe self-hosting guide covers what the first run asks and what the stack needs.
Which bill fits your team
A team that wants one vendor to hold the model and the invoice, with a single per-seat number to plan around, fits the ChatGPT seat. A team that wants the seat to carry pooled credits, the compute meter to stop when nothing runs, and the model bill in its own provider account fits Kortix. When a security review needs the system on your own network, self-host settles the choice.
Questions about the bill.
Does ChatGPT Work have a price of its own?
No. OpenAI does not sell ChatGPT Work as a standalone product. It is bundled into ChatGPT plans and seats, so the ChatGPT bill is seat-driven. The ChatGPT Business Standard seat is $25 per user per month billed monthly, or $20 billed annually, and usage beyond the included limits is bought as workspace credits (checked October 2026).
What does Kortix cost?
Free is $0 with 200 credits per month and 1 project. The team plan is $40 per seat per month with 2,500 credits per month per seat, pooled. Compute is billed per second and draws from the same pool. Self-host is free.
Can I use my own model keys instead of paying for models through Kortix?
Yes. Any model provider with your own keys. Or the ChatGPT plan you already pay for. When you bring your own key, your provider account pays for tokens and Kortix covers the seat and the compute.
Is there a free way to run Kortix?
Yes. Self-host is free, so you pay only your own model and compute providers. The managed cloud starts free as well: Free is $0 with 200 credits per month and 1 project.
Price the seat, then price the compute.
Start free, or take the team plan and bring your own model keys.
